Projects

On this page, you'll be able to access detailed information about various projects and units I have taught. This will include samples of student work as well as details about the content and theory. Each project will be accompanied by a personal reflection as well as student testimonials about their experience with the work.

Panem Forever

In this 8th grade project, students read and analyze Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, identifying major themes. They explore the dystopian genre, identify dystopian elements in the story, and write an argumentative essay on what makes Panem a dystopian society.

Percy the Hero

In this 7th grade project, students read and analyze Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief. They explore Greek Mythology, the archetypal hero, and the Hero's Journey by drawing comparisons between Percy Jackson and the original archetypal hero, Odysseus.

May the Odds

In this 10th grade mini-project, students read and analyze Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games and draw connections between its themes, history, and modern world events. Students will implement what they've learned into the conceptualization of their own countries and cultures.

Don't Open, Dead Inside

In this 11th grade media literacy unit, students learn how to read the text of media. They explore storytelling when elongated for television and learn how to think critically about the content they consume. After studying a model text, students create an episode-pitch for their favorite show.

Voire Dire

In this 11th grade unit, students participate in a reader's theater of 12 Angry Men to accompany their work on the California Innocence Project. Students engage in deep character analysis throughout the duration of the project, preparing them to make a character-based creative piece.
